Our Newest Toy: Risograph SF5130
Our new Riso SF5130 is part printer, part art machine, and 100% awesome. It uses eco-friendly soy ink drums and stencil masters to create affordable richly textured prints.

So, What are We Doing With it?
We’re offering rentable studio time, so you can print your own art, comics, event posters and art prints right here. Whether you’re an indie artist, small business, or design nerd, you’ll love experimenting with color, paper, and layering.

What the Heck is a Riso?
Born in Japan in the late 1980s, Risograph is sort of like mixing a photocopier with screenprinting. Think semi-transparent color layers, quirky imperfections, and unexpected magic — every print looks a little different, and that’s the beauty.

I Don't Know How to Use It
That’s totally okay. We’ve gotten support from the city of Lowell and Mosaic so we can offer hands-on workshops and demos. Follow Pop Cultured and sign up for our newsletter to be the first to know when classes and workshops are scheduled. Come make something weird and wonderful with us.

Bring your own paper or purchase paper right here at Pop Cultured! We carry a small and always changing array of French Paper options.
Riso printing works best on uncoated, absorbent paper with a little tooth to it. Standard copy paper, uncoated text-weight paper, and many uncoated cardstock options work well. Avoid glossy, coated, or heavily textured papers, as they can cause printing issues. Not sure if your paper will work? Just ask! We're happy to help you figure it out before your printing time. Our Riso SF5130 can accommodate a variety of paper sizes, from small postcards to 11" × 17" sheets! Popular choices include 5.5" × 8.5", 8.5" × 11", and 11" × 17". The maximum printable area is 8.25" × 14.06", so remember to leave room for margins when preparing your artwork.
-
To make the most of your Riso time, please arrive with your artwork ready to print. Your files should be separated by color, with a separate grayscale file for each ink color you plan to use. File preparation will eat into your printing time so plan to do it before you arrive.

Part of the magic of Riso printing is its wonderfully imperfect nature. Slight misalignments, unexpected textures, smudges, and variations in ink coverage are all part of its quirky, one-of-a-kind charm. No two prints are ever quite alike, and that's part of the fun! We recommend printing a few extras to account for those happy accidents (and the occasional not-so-happy one). Just remember, every impression is charged, even if the print doesn't turn out quite as planned. Embrace the imperfections, experiment, and let the Riso do its thing!

All Riso bookings are final and nonrefundable, so please be sure of your plans before reserving your time. We know life happens, though,so we're happy to reschedule your session with at least two weeks' notice. Bookings cannot be canceled or refunded, and rescheduling requests made less than 14 days before your appointment cannot be accommodated.

We encourage you to get weird! We're not especially prudish, we are exuberantly pro-LGBTQ+, pro-women's rights, and pro-creative expression.
That said, we won't print material that promotes hate or violence. All artwork should be your own original creation or something you have permission to reproduce. No copyright-infringing material, which includes no AI-generated work.
These are basic guidelines, not an exhaustive list. Pop Cultured reserves the right to decline any print job at our discretion and to add to or change these guidelines at any time, without advance notice. Basically, bring your creativity, use your judgment, and don't be a jerk.
